MC was facing serious time. 45-Life to be exact.
Charged with 1st Degree Murder, MC needed a law firm willing to fight for his life if he ever wanted a chance at freedom. He called Robert Callahan & Associates & from the moment the firm took up MC’s defense, MC knew he was in the right hands. After filing motions, gathering discovery, conducting our own investigation, and interviewing witnesses, Robert J Callahan & Associates were ready to put on our defense. With the State not willing to drop the case,
“It was him or me.” That was what MC thought after he got punched in the face. Looking out from his right eye, his left swollen shut, his head throbbing, heart racing, he had to make a split decision. He saw the last moments of his life coming to a violent end. MC pulled his Smith & Wesson and fired until he thought he was safe.
He never imagined that day would end with him having to shoot someone. He didn’t start off his day thinking he’d catch a body. Thinking he would need to shot a man to save his own life.
MC knew he was in trouble. That trouble became official when the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office charged him with 1st Degree Murder later that day. It was a journey he couldn’t believe he was on. So started the biggest fight of his life.
Thankfully, Robert Callahan & Associates were ready. The Judge took the bench. The Jury took their seats. The State put on a strong case. They came at MC with the full force of the State of Illinois. Three witnesses testified to seeing MC fire multiple gunshots into the victim as MC stood over him. MC’s ex-wife did her best to do as much damage as she could on the stand. After her cross examination by Robert Callahan, though, her testimony showed one thing: she didn’t see what happened not matter how hard she tried to claim she knew what happened.
Four days into trial, it was time for MC to tell the jury what really happened. What he believed was coming at him that horrible day. Robert Callahan guided MC through his testimony, something only possible by the extensive, personal preparation Robert & MC did before trial. MC told the jury what happened. He told the jury what he saw with his own eyes, what he felt when he pulled the trigger. MC put his fate in their hands. The trial was over.
Eight hours later, the MC got the news he wanted. The rest of his life wasn’t going to be spent in the Illinois Department of Corrections. He would see his family again. He would get his life back. MC beat his 1st degree murder charge.
MC never thought he would need a criminal defense attorney. He had never been arrested before in his life. That didn’t matter when he first felt handcuffs tighten on his wrist. He was lost. He didn’t know what to do, who to call. He called Robert Callahan & Associates. He’s no longer facing 45-life. He’s looking forward to life.
